Snow People that are their size

It snowed a little at our house last week.  Which meant the kids wanted more than anything to build snow people that were just their size. It took more than two hours because they didn't want any help. Except for getting the carrots out of the fridge.  Plus they stopped a lot to throw snowballs and eat the clean snow.

It rained last night. And this is what we found this morning. I went out and collected the hats and scarves and Daughter already started planning the building of our next snow family.

This is what our snow family looked like Saturday morning before we headed out to the library. Still going strong. mostly. I'll admit the majority of the chocolate chip eyes, nose and mouths have fall off.

Before I could even get the morning blog posted, Daughter asked me about going outside to finish the family. eh, why not? sure. Son was still asleep. I woke up Husband and the three of us got dressed and I gathered up hats and scarves for the remaining family members. Out we went.

some bok choy did not get picked before the snow

"Yay, we're finished."

"Wait, Mommy. Someting missing. What about Gracie E Girl snowman?"

"Ok, we'll make one for Gracie. But she's asleep so it'll be a small one."

yes, the cat is included in the snowman family. Actually, I was just glad that she picked that time to forget we also have two dogs, a turtle and two stray outside cats. I'm also glad that she accepted that that little mound of snow was actually a snow representation of our grey cat.

After we finished the family, Daughter wanted to build a snowman "up, up, up and away" that she could knock down. packing the knockdown snowman.

I don't think so, kid. Finish your snow. It's time to go in the house.

we switched to waterproof mittens for the snow family building. worked out well.

After she knocked Knock Down snowman down we had a fun snowball fight to the point where my jeans were soaked from rolling around on the snow. Husband got pretty wet too. That was when we decided it really WAS time to come in!

So fun. I hate that Son missed it, but it was great for Daughter!

p.s. I used chocolate chips for the snowman family faces. I do not regret getting some of the chocolate out of the house in a manner that is not down my throat.

SNOW on Monday

We got very little more snow overnight. I think our county was reporting 4-6 inches. Fun was had today. We were outside for a little over TWO HOURS. And I'm happy to report when we came back in a stripped the kids down, the only things that were cold and wet were their hands (cotton gloves) and their faces (lotioned but completely unexposed). Something like that makes me feel like not so bad of a parent. At least I can keep them dry and warm. All decked out in our Alaska gear, Husband and I were ready. (except for the jeans. I need some waterproof pants. maybe a ski bib)

Son. I found his gloves for today. Last night he was in mittens.

wow, I love this man. Here he reminds me of a man I went to Alaska with about 4 years ago.

Instead of playing on the yard, Husband wanted to go for a walk. Daughter wanted to see what the Library looked like with snow on it. We were gone for over an hour!

Son fell down a lot because the very top of the snow froze into ice last night. Bless his heart. He looked like a turtle helpless on its back. except he was on his stomach. He tried to crawl a few times but later gave that up and just called for help.

pneumonia boy's legs definitely look skinnier. But I'm glad he's well.

Daughter found an icicle on a mailbox. She said, "I love this ice. It just like a sucker."

eating ice became a theme late in our trip. I guess I should have grabbed a sippy cup.

Baby Cat is standing on the other side of the fence. I was so glad he was nice and warm when we came outside this morning.

I made the mistake of telling Daughter we'd make a whole family of snowmen. unfortunately this is the only one we've made so far. of course, after he was made and it was time to come in the house, Daughter threw a toddler fit and screamed, "We've only made a [Son] snowman! We still have to make a Mommy snowman, Daddy snowman, [Daughter] snowman and Gracie snowman."

yes, apparently the cat gets its own snowman and we have to go back out this evening to build them all. Maybe I can do a little bargaining on this. Or maybe I'll help make a three year old's day. Seriously, she loves snow.

SNOW on Sunday night

We had a white Christmas, but we stayed in the house and played with new toys. Daughter didn't even care. But, wow, she does love snow.

Yesterday we went to wal-mart and bought 2 toddler sized pairs of $15 rubber boots. (wow, that's a lot of money. It's definitely the most I've ever spent on a pair of shoes for the kids) I was also not wanting to pay that much for rubber boots. eh. Last year Daughter wore her socks and shoes, then I put my socks over them. THEM, I put her feet in zip lock bags. THEN I duct taped the bags so she'd have traction. THAT was a process I didn't really want to repeat. $15, I sucked it up.

well, WE GOT SNOW and lots of it. (and it is still coming)

It started just after dinner and I decided to skip Desperate Housewives, brew some coffee and sit on the porch and watch it. After about 5 minutes I decided that was pretty selfish. We dressed the kids and they had a fantastic 30 minutes outside. Seriously, why did they have to wait until tomorrow? There's snow now, let's play NOW!

The very first thing Daughter did was lie down and make a snow angel. (Husband taught her how to do that during last year's snow. And last week, she taught Son in the kitchen)

even the cat joined the fun. He ran up and down the hill with the kids and dug in the snow while the kids scooped it up in their hands. (yes, he has a warm place to sleep)

tomorrow I'm going to duct tape Daughter's gloves to her jacket so she doesn't get snow up her sleeves. And liberal amounts of lotion on their faces. But other than that, I was pleased with how they were dressed.
