I'm Bloomin' Excited

about blooms!

this is our first squash bloom. We have 3 other squash plants, but this one is the first to bloom.

This is our first potato bloom. (yes, city girls. potatoes flower.) I forget if this is the red or yellow potato. I'd have to pull out my garden notebook and check out the planting grid.

One tomato plant (I have no idea variety this one is)

another tomato plant (again, I have no idea which one this one is)

BLACK BERRY!!

I'm almost 100% convinced now that the Sam's Club berry bushes are not alive. Any ideas on how I can be certain? Maybe cut into the bark and see if it's green? I have no idea. But as of now, we're/I'm planning on digging them up (and at the very least plant them some where else) to make room for Star of David Okra.

I'm excited about the okra for a few reasons:
  1. the plant grows between 6-7 feet tall. I think that's fun.
  2. this variety isn't prickly like the okra I used to help pick at my grandparents house
  3. a dear friend is giving us the seeds
  4. AND they are heirloom. It's exciting to me to be able to help keep an old variety alive that corporate america farmers phase out.

I am not wishing I had planted squash but I didn't want to get ahead of myself this year. I planted big boys, better boys and juliett grapes, and herbs of course. But, I really want that squash now!

Erin, it's not too late. They really grow fast! We planted a second crop last year in July after bugs got the first one. We were eating squash in September!
