Because my current lot in life is that of a stay-at-home-mom/money saver/chief entertainer/educator for a single income family, one of my favorite places in the world in the $1 section at Target. seriously. Especially now that it's cold outside, we can't just go to the yard and play for hours. crafts. yes, I love crafts.
The $1 section is where I found It's Check-up Time, Elmo! That little gem made Daughter's three year old check up the best one ever. If Elmo wasn't scared, neither was she!
This summer I found these. And, WOW, I wish I would have gotten more than two. They are ceramic, which I think explains the 8+ age recommendation. (that and the paints are not washable!) But I figured it would make a great afternoon activity for Daughter and I.
working on my lion. I definitely don't paint with the mind and heart of a three year old, unfortunately.

Ohhh. We love these. Lily loves to paint them and give them as gifts. They have them at Michaels for about a quarter all of the time. We get them after the holidays too. We have a 10 piece nativity scene I got at Hobby Lobby for like $2. Once you have the paint, you just need the little pieces to paint. I love that they are short and fat. Just the perfect size!
We LOVE the $1 section. Even though our little one is "too grown up for those" we still take a quick peek every time we go in 'just in case.' :)
I think even if I had mucho money to spend, I would still make the Target dollar section my first stop. The girls get a "prize" when we go out of there and they very much look forward to it. I think we bought some foam picture frames a few years ago and Evan decorated with foam stickers and gave them as Father's Day gifts-another moment when we should have bought more. And we always come home with Hello Kitty socks...but you can't beat socks for a dollar.
PS: last Saturday Michaels had all of their halloween and fall stuff on sale so you might could grab some more.
